Carol Wan

Carol Wan is currently the Director of Public Relations for NAAAP Boston.  She joined the organization in 2004 and has since participated in numerous events and lead three committees.  In 2006, as Scholarship Committee co-chair, she revitalized the Committee by growing membership within the committee and organizing the most exquisite scholarship gala to date which was held at Fenway Park's exclusive EMC Club.  Knowledge from her graduate coursework in measurement proved helpful when revamping the metrics used in evaluating scholarship applicants.  Later, Ms. Wan became co-chair of the Student Outreach Committee and organized events allowing for Boston area college and graduate students to network, including a mock interview workshop where students performed mock interviews with live interviewers who have had experience selecting new hires.  Most recently, she served as the local marketing leader for the 2011 NAAAP National Convention in Boston. Through her use of guerilla marketing strategies and awareness of locations frequented by Asian Americans, Ms. Wan assisted with increasing convention registration numbers from 217 to over 680 attendees in under four weeks.

Professionally, Ms. Wan recently obtained her Massachusetts state licensure in school counseling and is currently serving as a volunteer guidance counselor in Quincy, MA.  She specifically works with students on their college applications.  Some of her other career highlights include working as an ESL teacher in Hong Kong through the Princeton-in-Asia teaching fellowship, career counseling to undergraduates at the Barnard College Office of Career Development, and creating a college access program for low-income youth at the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center.  The college program consisted of campus tours, informational workshops, financial aid assistance, and college essay writing help. As an undergraduate at Tufts University, Ms. Wan studied clinical psychology and Chinese. She also holds dual masters degrees in psychological counseling from the Teachers College, Columbia University.
