On Saturday November 19th, ten volunteers participated in Operation Snowsports for YES (Youth Enrichment Services). On this day, volunteers learned how to remove summer wax off of skis in storage and put on new wax for the upcoming winter season. Skis and snowboards need to waxed frequently to protect the longevity of the equipment and provide a smoother ride down the mountain.

The volunteers learned a new skill and best of all bonded over when to go snowboarding. This event was great success as we prepped over 25 skis in the YES shop. Operation Snowsports is YES’ flagship program that provides youth with the opportunity to ski, snowboard, snowshoe and cross country ski during the winter months. Each year, they take more than 1,000 youth downhill skiing and snowboarding from December through April!

YES’ mission is to inspire and challenge youth with physical and mental activities that foster life-long respect for self, others, and the environment. Through outdoor and environmental experiences, YES kids:

1. Build confidence

2. Develop motor skills and physical fitness
3. Learn responsibility and accountability

4. Learn to treat others, including mentors, coaches, and officials, with respect
5. Interact with diverse cultures
6. Develop a healthy life style that includes exercise

7. Learn respect for the environment

Thanks again to all the volunteers and their hard work!!
