View the PhotosOn Sunday, February 13th, a group of 12 NAAAP volunteers helped ring in the Lunar New Year with the Gund Kwok Lion Dance Troupe at the Chinatown Lunar New Year Festival.

The day started off with volunteers meeting up at the Gund Kwok Den. As volunteers grabbed some breakfast, the lion dance troupe practiced their performances. After gearing up and preparing for the day in the cold, with hand warmers and extra sweatshirts, the troupe and all the volunteers paraded over to the center stage of the festival. The Gund Kwok troupe helped open the Lunar New Year Festival on stage with a lion and dragon dance. The Gund Kwok group along with all the volunteers then paraded throughout Chinatown and performing in front of several businesses to help them ring in the Year of the Rabbit with good luck.

Throughout the day volunteers helped to control the crowd around the lion dance performances, managed the equipment carts during the parade, and also took pictures of the troupe. The volunteers were essential in helping the Gund Kwok troupe parade through the busy streets to the many businesses. Afterward the volunteers enjoyed a nice dinner courtesy of the Gund Kwok troupe at China Pearl.

Happy Lunar New Year!
