On Friday, March 5th, a group of 20 volunteers participated in Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center's annual Lunar New Year celebration.

The event was from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm, with two separate shifts. For the 1st shift, volunteers helped with setting up (reception room, silent auction) and staffing the silent auction. The silent auction was held in the same room as the wine and dim sum reception. Volunteers helped to answer any questions on auction items and monitored the bidders. As the banquet started, volunteers were able to take a break for dinner. BCNC provided boxed dinners to all volunteers as event leaders prepped the 2nd shift on the details of the live auction.

At around 8 pm, the live auction started and the 2nd shift volunteers spread out into their designated areas inside the banquet room. The live auction was conducted by the host, David Brown of WCVB-TV Channel 5. Auction items included Red Sox tickets, golf outtings, private tours of Channel 5 studios, and several more. As David Brown was auctioning items, each volunteer monitored 2-3 tables and alerted David of bids by raising their green folder. The live auction was very exciting with David walking the entire room encouraging bidders. Once the final bid had been made, volunteers helped the bidder to fill out the appropriate forms to redeem the prize.

After the live auction, volunteers helped to close out the silent auction which was being held in the reception room. As winning bidders came to claim their prize, volunteers helped to ensure they had paid for the item and hand out the auction items.

The day after, NAAAP volunteers were recognized by the BCNC organizers for their help. Thanks again to the volunteers in making this event a huge success!
