On Thursday, February 25th, NAAAP Boston and ASPIRE co-hosted the 2010 Lunar New Year Fundraiser and Networking Event. Despite the rainy, windy weather, we had an excellent turnout of over 170 guests. Upon sign-in, each guest was given a red envelope (lai see) which contained candy, a raffle ticket and a guessing game ticket in appreciation of their donations.
In between the networking and reconnecting with old friends, people got a chance to help themselves to a food buffet, to try our Lunar New Year specialty drinks and to decide which amongst our various prizes they wanted to try their luck on. Many were also won over by our enthusiastic roving ticket sales people and bought even more tickets to increase their chances of winning. Prizes included Celtics tickets, restaurant gift certificates, free bread for a year and complimentary happy hour appetizers at local establishments.
However, this night was not just about networking. It was about giving back to our community, locally and globally. Through the generosity of our raffle prize donors and the contributions of our guests, we were able to raise over three thousand dollars. All proceeds will go to Asian Sisters Participating In Reaching Excellence (www.girlsaspire.org), to youth education in Myanmar (www.worlded.org) and to humanitarian aid and relief in Haiti (www.doctorswithoutborders.org).
