Mar3 Gund Kwok 10 Week Trial Class
Share this event on Twitter: |
Gund Kwok - the only all Asian women lion and dragon dance troupe in the United States - will have its 10-week trial class starting on Wednesday, March 3rd.
Our troupe was established in 1998 by Cheng Imm Tan. The lion dance is traditionally performed by men, and our troupe Gund Kwok (which means heroine in Chinese) was created to combat the stereotype that women were incapable of performing such an art because of how much strength, endurance, and skill it takes to lion dance. During the trial class, you'll get a workout that includes cardio and strength exercises, stances, and routines to perform at your trial class graduation at the end of the 10 classes.
It doesn't matter how old you are (we've had a 55 year old grandmother who can lift anything) or how weak/out of shape you think you are. Lion dance can push and challenge your mind and body. As long as you're an Asian female who wants to challenge herself, you're in! We except high school and college females as well.
Location: Boston Chinatown's China Trade Center (across the street from the Orange line - Chinatown stop)
Time: Wednesdays, 6:30-9pm
Fee: $75 (It's a great deal if you think about it - 10 classes, 2.5 hours each - $7.50 per class!)
Trial Class Dates:
3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/31
4/7, 4/14, 4/28
5/5, 5/12, 5/19
5/20 - Graduation
(We actually skip two weeks since I will not be available to coach during that time, but there are still 10 weeks of classes.)
If you're interested, please respond below so I can contact you next month about the class. Also, if you have any more questions about lion dance, Gund Kwok, and/or my experience, don't hesitate to ask.
