Scholarship

This committee and its members are dedicated to finding and awarding highly motivated graduating high school students in search of higher education.

The committee maintains a vast network of local area high schools and counselors. It is focused on identifying and screening for excellence in leadership, community service, and academics.

To this end, the scholarship application process is thoroughly examined each academic year. The committee's professionalism and high standards have drawn the attention of sponsors such as Liberty Mutual, Ocean Spray, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts to the scholarship fund and our students.

Born out of grassroots fundraising efforts by NAAAP Boston members, our scholarship fund began as generous donations from members who shared a commitment to building a strong foundation for developing future leaders.

Today, our donors have grown to include a number of prominent local corporations, academic institutions, philanthropic foundations, and individual contributors.

In 2009, the scholarships awarded totaled $10,000 and were awarded to three deserving scholars in June at a presentation dinner attended by our members and sponsors. We are most proud of the fact that our students have continued on with their education at some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the world, including Emerson College, Amherst College, and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

The 2009 NAAAP-Boston Future Leaders Scholarship Award Winners were:

Michelle Tran of Danvers High School (The NAAAP-Boston Future Leader Scholarship Award Winner)

Suekuen Hua of Boston Latin Academy (The NAAAP-Boston Liberty Mutual Future Leader Scholarship Award Winner)

Many, many thanks again to all our supporters over the years!

The deadline for this year's submission is Feb. 5, 2010.
