BE INVOLVED! BE A LEADER!
The Community Service Committee (CSC) strives to foster Asian-American volunteerism and participation in local community development and activity. We aim to achieve two visions: (1) Community-based: To be sought after by non-profit organizations looking for assistance in the planning of all activities involving Asian-American communities; as well as (2) Volunteer-based: To be an added-value resource for our volunteers in hopes to develop their leadership and professional skills; to encourage a fulfilling volunteer experience at each event.
Each month, our committee holds meetings to discuss past and upcoming events. We are always open to ideas and activities that can utilize our members' professional skills for community needs. Additionally, we have at least one volunteer event per month. We also seek to provide on-going volunteer opportunities to fit our members' interests. Whether you are a new NAAAP Boston participant (member or non-member) or an interested non-profit representative, we invite you to join our monthly committee meetings – Feel free to check the main website for the next monthly meeting (usually the last Wednesday of the month).
Throughout the year, CSC forms and maintains relationships with community-based non profits. The following are the non-profits that we have worked with in the past year (in no particular order):
- Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence (ATASK)
- Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center (BCNC)
- Cradles to Crayons
- Habitat For Humanity
- Quincy Asian Resources Inc. (QARI)
- Ricesticks & Tea Asian Food Pantry (RST)
- Wide Horizons for Children (WHFC)
- Boston Chinatown Wang YMCA
- Community Servings
- Dorchester Cares (Welcome Baby!)
Finally, each year, CSC recognizes volunteers for their outstanding service at our Annual Volunteer Appreciation Celebration. This year, CSC honored 6 members for their service and dedication including: David Sadeli, Amy Hsu, Mark King, Kim Wong, Zin Ma, and Dzung Nguyen. CSC also presented Chien-Mei Chang with the 2009 Unsung Heroine Award. Chien-Mei is a former CSC Co-chair and was integral in creating a better and stronger committee.
